What is Park & Pedal?

Park & Pedal is a route finding app that provides multimodal, shared mobility services to the suburban commuter market.

We connect driving commuters with last-mile eBikes to save them money, time, and frustration from traffic.

The patent pending program is similar to park and ride, but utilizes eBikes and scooters, rather than buses and trains. Commuters have use of the bike all day, and return it to the original station.

What is Park & Pedal?

Park & Pedal provides multi-modal, shared mobility services to the suburban commuter market.

Commuters drive the first leg of their journey, park at designated stations located just outside the city, and rent an eBike to pedal to work, thereby avoiding last mile traffic and expensive parking in the city.

The model is similar to park and ride, but utilizes eBikes and scooters, rather than buses and trains.

Park & Pedal for COVID-19 Recovery

To allow for the return of America’s workforce after the COVID-19 pandemic, transportation systems will need to adapt in order to facilitate social distancing and lower the potential for exposure to contagions.

Experts agree that there will be a dramatic shift in consumer behavior as the public largely avoids mass transit, resulting in a widespread shift to single occupancy vehicles such as cars. However, our roadways and parking structures will not support such an increase in demand, leading to unsustainable gridlock traffic, longer commutes, and further negative economic effects.

Park & Pedal offers a solution — low cost, solo, open-air travel with a significantly reduced risk of exposure, while still avoiding traffic and parking challenges.

Average Daily Cost of Parking Downtown

Savings for 1 Boston Commuter

Parking cost = $34/day *

Congestion charge cost = $15/day **

Mileage cost for driving last leg into city = $8/day ***

Total = $57/day

Cost of Park & Pedal = $10/day

TOTAL SAVINGS = $12,220/year

* Based on average daily parking in Boston from Parkopedia US Parking Index 2018. $34 x 260 (work days) = $8,840
** $15 potential congestion charge based on current charges in London and proposed charges in NYC. $15 x 260 (work days) = $3,900
*** $0.67 per mile based on AAA 2018 Your Driving Costs report, and USDOT FHWA average annual miles driven. Average biking distance in round trip Park & Pedal commute is 12 miles. ($0.67 x 12 (miles) = $8.04) x 260 (work days) = $2,090.40

A Different User Than Current Bike Share

The Suburban to Urban commuter market is 2 times the size of the Urban to Urban commuter market that is currently targeted by existing bike and scooter share.

There is enormous untapped potential in providing a better solution for these suburban commuters.

Park & Pedal’s focus is exclusively on suburban-to-urban trips and does not compete with other micromobility docked and dockless systems which focus exclusively on urban-to-urban trips.

Faster Than Google Maps

Time Savings Study

The Park & Pedal app offers mobility that is faster than Google Maps driving navigation for 38% of inbound weekday Boston car commuters*.

Also faster than Google Maps mass transit for 67% of inbound weekday Boston transit commuters**.

**Using Google Maps transit navigation vs. Park & Pedal app – based on 892 trips at 7:45am on June 11th by transit commuters who work in the city of Boston – assuming access to a car; randomly selected from the U.S. Census 2012-2016.

Google Maps Integration

Multimodal for Everyone

Commuters rely on Google Maps to find the best mode of transit, so the fastest way to work needs to be at their fingertips.

Park & Pedal can be easily integrated with the existing user interface, providing the fastest, most efficient, and lowest cost option to millions of users.

Uncertainty with Google Maps

A More Predictable Commute

Arrive When You Expect

Park & Pedal has substantially less unexpected deviation in travel time than Google Maps driving. A typical Google Maps prediction for travel time while driving during rush hour can vary as much as “30 min – 1 hour 5 min”.

Heavy downtown traffic has little impact on eBike travel times, meaning Park & Pedal commuters will arrive much closer to the predicted time.

Retail Partners

Station Locations Promote Shopping

Park & Pedal stations can be located at major retailers with underutilized parking, including grocery stores, fitness facilities, and big-box stores.

75% of commuters regularly combine shopping with their commute*, making Park & Pedal even more convenient for users.

By stopping by these stores 2 times daily, these employed potential shoppers also provide valuable foot traffic to our partner retailers.

A Better eBike Share

Improvements on Dockless & Traditional Docked

Our round-trip docked system avoids dockless eBike share issues with redistribution, theft, impounding, and decreased vehicle life.

Each eBike needs to be returned to the original parking location in order to end the rental, ensuring 2-way trips.

Our patent pending stations have dual-purpose cables that lock, charge, and end the rental when the bike is plugged in.
